You gotta have friends!

Hanging out with new friends Kelly and Sally, both Homeward Trails adoptees.

More Shilo at play

Play time!

Parting is hard...

Shilo left the wonderful foster who took her in for her recuperation and left her friend Meadow to go to a new foster who is her longer-term foster until her forever home is found. Saying goodbye is always hard but there have been so many changes in sweet Shilo's life recently.

The good news is that Shilo is settling in well at her new foster home. She still bumps into things sometimes as she gets used to navigating with only one eye. Her new foster had another foster dog, Frankie, and in a short amount of time Frankie and Shilo became the best of friends. But Frankie found himself a forever home and there was yet another goodbye for Shilo. When Frankie's new family came to pick him up and Frankie realized he was going, he ran into the room where Shiloh was. He did not want to leave her. She did not eat the first day he was gone.

She is doing better now and is getting regular play dates with a few Homeward Trails adoptees. Sounds like this girl just loves other dogs!

Shilo's Doing Great

Shilo went to the vets today and had her stitches removed. Everything looks good. There is a minimal amount of drainage in the left eye, which the vet said is to be expected. I actually had expected more. She no longer needs the Tramadol and has only 2 more days of Doxycycline.

Shilo has been given the okay to return to normal play. We expected this would be the case as she loves her yard time. She bounds through the yard like a deer. She has adapted extremely well. Someone is going to be very lucky to have her as a companion. As you can see from the pic, Meadow never misses a good photo op. either.

We're working on removing the cone for short periods of time but it will remain close by should she become inclined to mess with the eye. I don't think there's any love loss there on her part.

Update on Shilo's Recovery

Shilo is becoming her usual happy, playful self. Her spirits are high and she is starting to gain more confidence every day. We are still limiting her play time but when she gets a chance to run around the yard with her foster sister, Meadow, she is definitely in her element.

Her eye looks good. There is no more redness and it stays dry and clean. The vet was kind enough to shave her in the same shape as the arch of her mask. She has an appointment to get her stitches removed next Thursday. We're hoping to ditch the cone before too long but better safe than sorry so for now, it stays on.

At only 2 years old, she has some of that spunky puppy energy but without all of the annoying puppy habits. It's evident that she's had some training. She knows basic commands, is very obedient and tells you when she needs to go outside. In fact, she's so well behaved we keep forgetting how young she is. Her coat is nice and shiny too. She really is a pretty girl.

We'll update her again once the stitches are removed but for now she's happy and doing well.

More pics of Shilo - Before Surgery

Shilo is recovering well

Shilo showed marked signs of improvement this morning. She was alert, ate/drank well and her nose is wet again - yeah, that's a good sign. During our morning walk, which is only around the yard for right now, she had a little more pep in her step and moved more quickly than the day before.

She's still adjusting to the loss of sight in her left eye but has quickly learned which way to position herself on the couch so she can catch all the action. The cone is kind of a bummer for her but she's learning how to get around with it quite well.

We hired a dog walker to come in late morning and today, after day 1, she's already declared that she loves her.

Thank you to everyone who has inquired about her. She is a super sweetheart and we're really glad she's able to visit with us while she recovers.

More news and pics to come...

On the mend...

Shilo had her surgery and is doing pretty well. She was a little jumpy at first but it's to be expected since she is in a new home and is recovering from a pretty significant surgery. Luckily, her foster family is giving her lots of love and she has a new canine foster sister, Meadow, who is as gentle as can be!

Shilo in Rescue

We picked Shiloh up yesterday morning and took her to our vet. Her liver enzymes were elevated so the vet felt that it wouldn't be safe to put her under anesthesia without running more tests. She had x-rays taken to see if there was other internal trauma to her body.

The vet has given her the "all-clear" and Shilo is going in for surgery as we speak. Fingers crossed!
